Composer and food writer, Meena Ysanne, designs experiences that bridge the gap between our outer world and our inner life.
Meena composes and conducts large-scale music, including two feature film soundtracks. She has arranged orchestral strings, toured and/or recorded with Smashing Pumpkins, Tiesto, Psychic TV, and Christina Perri. She is currently building a significant new orchestra project.
Her writing has been published by HarperCollins and Rizzoli, and The Los Angeles Times food section. She’s designed edible gardens for William Shatner and Patrick Dempsey, and cooked for Joshua Bell. Her most recent book, Vegetable Cakes, is published by Lorenz Books.
Meena integrates this unique wealth of experiences to create Yntegrity.
She draws on crossmodality, a new area of scientific research which explores how our senses interrelate to create a unified experience, and she is a member of XM.
In addition to her knowledge of music and food, she brings her fascination with the oceans and astronomy, from the heavens to the deep, as well as the unconventional, alchemical, ancient and modern perspectives, and pandrogynous liminal horizons where anything is possible.
How Meena’s music and food careers combined, creating Yntegrity
Yntegrity has its roots in Meena's dual music and food careers, reaching back to the late 80s, coming together in 2013, with the launch of The Mermaid Song.
The Mermaid Song was a music, film, and beauty collaboration for the oceans, featuring a limited edition bath ballistic from Lush Cosmetics, containing edible seaweed and pink salt.
We hear, see, feel and smell Meena's orchestral music and the film she directed, with the bath ballistic created in response to her song. The project raised $48,000 for Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and garnered a full-page feature in The Los Angeles Times.
Next, Meena began conversations with NYU neuroscientist, Professor Denis Pelli, who researches beauty and perception, and British multi-sensory designer, Steph Singer, who Mee worked with at BAM. In 2016, Nokia Bell Labs said Meena is "channeling the spirit of Robert Rauschenberg"
Yntegrity : Happiness followed, then Yntegrity : Diversity, Yntegrity : Paris, and then Yntegrity : TEDx. A largescale work is currently being developed, with smaller sketches on the horizon as a foundation.
